葉鏽病的嚴重性

卡斯提 抗病新品種,一個多世紀以來, 葉鏽病 (Leaf rust) 一直困擾著咖啡農。當 一棵樹感染了這種病,樹葉就會產生一種棕色的細粉像鐵鋪一樣可以擦下來。這種疾病是恥孢鋪菌(Hemileia vastatrix) 感染所致會導致咖啡樹葉片褪色從明亮的綠色變成棕黃色。
Castillo is a disease-resistant variety developed to combat leaf rust, a disease that has been bothering coffee producers for more than a century. When a tree is infected, its leaves develop brown powdery spots, which is a fungal disease caused by Hemileia vastatrix. Coffee tree leaves’ color fade away from bright green to brown.

最後,咖啡樹的所有葉片都會脫落無法長出咖啡豆。 哥倫比亞的科學家一直在與這種疾病進行一場鮮為人知的戰鬥。
Eventually coffee trees lead to defoliation and a loss of coffee production. Colombian scientists have been battling this disease for a long time.

In 2005, they introduced Castillo, a new-generation coffee variety resistant to leaf rust and coffee berry disease while also increasing yield. It was named after Dr. James Castillo, a Colombian coffee breeder.

卡斯提優以Colombia種為基礎再與卡杜拉種雜交育種直到第十代才大功告成雖然初登場時不被咖啡愛好者看好但近幾年市場上已出現風味優雅細緻的批次。日曬批次帶有熱帶水果的調性、酸值圓潤平衡。
Castillo was developed by crossing the Colombia variety with Caturra and underwent ten generations of breeding before its final version was released. Initially, coffee enthusiasts were skeptical, but in recent years, some batches have displayed refined and elegant flavors. The natural processed batches exhibit tropical fruit notes with a well-balanced acidity.
