SL28 and SL34 are the main Kenyan coffee varieties. It was cultivated and named by SL Laboratories (Scott Laboratories) in 1930.
The SL28 variety has a mixed pedigree of Bourbon, Mocha, and Tipica. The original goal of cultivating SL28 was to mass-produce coffee beans that were both high-quality and resistant to pests and diseases. Although the subsequent production of SL28 is not as large as expected, it has great sweetness, balance and complex and varied flavors, as well as prominent citrus and plum characters.
The SL34 flavor is similar to the SL28 flavor, with a heavier, richer and cleaner taste than the SL28. The SL34 variety has bourbon, and more Tepica lineages. The bean appearance is similar to the SL28 variety, but it is more adaptable to sudden heavy rain.
Kenyan coffee beans are graded by bean size and flavors. The particle size is divided into three categories: AA (above 17 mesh), AB (15~16 mesh) and PB (). The flavor is divided into three levels: TOP, PLUS, FAQ.
Kenya is one of the main producers of coffee beans. About six million people in the country are engaged in the coffee bean industry, mostly in the form of small farmers, washed coffee bean treatment plants and cooperatives. Kenyan coffee is mainly processed by washed method, and coffee trees are mostly planted in mountainous areas with an altitude of 1400 meters to 2000 meters.
Muranga County, in the Central Province of Kenya, is next to Nyeri, a well-known producing area in the north, and Thika in the south, and is about 80 kilometers away from the capital Nairobi in the south. Close to Mount Kenya National Park, the coffee-growing environment also benefits directly from the fertile volcanic soils of the Aberdare Mountains. The natural environment of Mulanca is stable, and coffee cultivation is the main economic activity of most residents. In recent years, the government units affiliated to the county have continued to provide assistance programs such as coffee cultivation technology improvement and awards, which have greatly improved the production quality of the production area.
