Parainema
Parainema is an Arabica coffee variety characterized by its elongated bean shape, resembling the Geisha variety, and its vibrant, emerald-green appearance. It is a meticulously cultivated new variety with exceptional disease resistance, effectively withstanding coffee leaf rust and nematode infestations. The breeding program began in 1981, with stable cultivation first achieved in Costa Rica in 2006, followed by its introduction to Honduras in 2010, where it was officially named Parainema.
The Parainema coffee tree is a small shrub, and due to genetic variations, its leaf tips may exhibit green, yellow, or a blend of both colors. Parainema green coffee beans are considered extremely rare and are worth exploring.
