馬拉威(Malawi)

Once rated by the United Nations as one of the world's least developed countries, Malawi boasts unique coffee flavors with pronounced sweetness and aroma. Local smallholder farmers cultivate coffee using traditional methods, resulting in beans with a sweet, delicate flavor profile, rich floral notes, and distinctive hints of licorice and spice. Malawi is a member of the Eastern Africa Fine Coffees Association (EAFCA) and promotes its coffee at the annual Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) exhibitions, gradually gaining recognition among global coffee enthusiasts.

Malawi, located in southeastern Africa, is a landlocked country bordered by Tanzania to the north, Zambia to the west, and Mozambique to the east, and separated by Lake Malawi, the third-largest lake in Africa. This vast natural territory possesses rich natural resources and a unique ecosystem.

Although facing financial constraints, Malawi's coffee industry is gaining attention in the global coffee market. Its Geisha coffee was introduced from neighboring Ethiopia in the mid-20th century and is now primarily grown in Malawi's highest quality production area, the Misuku Mountains. With altitudes ranging from 1,700 to 2,300 meters, abundant weathered parent rock rich in acidity, and soils composed of deep brown-dark red clay and sandy loam, the climate is ideal for Arabica coffee bean growth, with annual rainfall of 1,500 to 2,000 millimeters.

In Malawi, coffee is mainly grown by smallholder farmers, particularly concentrated in the northern Viphya and Nyika Plateaux regions. The Misuku Mountains coffee production area, especially the Songwe River basin near the Malawi-Tanzania border, is a major Arabica coffee growing region.
