Kenya is a significant producer of specialty coffee in East Africa, with approximately six million people engaged in the coffee industry nationwide, primarily in the form of smallholder farmers and cooperatives. Kenyan coffee trees are mostly grown at altitudes between 1,400 and 2,000 meters, with growing regions including Ruiri, Thika, Kirinyaga, Mt. Kenya West, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Muranga, primarily on the foothills of Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare Range. Many production areas in Kenya strive to preserve the native forest ecosystem, protect natural gene pools, and support the propagation of wild coffee varieties, fostering diverse coffee trees. The unique Kenyan varieties SL28 and SL34, bred and named by the "Scott Laboratories" in 1930, were born in this favorable environment.

Kenyan Coffee Grading:

The three common grades based on bean size are AA, AB, and PB. AA beans are 17 and 18 screen size; AB beans are 15 and 16 screen size.

The flavor grades, in descending order, are TOP, PLUS, and FAQ.
