"Honduras is the second largest coffee exporter in Central and South America and the tenth largest in the world. Compared to the mild-toned Central American coffees, Honduran coffee stands out with its distinct style. Although its coffee industry developed relatively late, it has experienced rapid growth, boasting high yields, pronounced sweetness, fruity notes, and low acidity.

The development of Honduras's coffee industry came relatively late, lagging behind most of its Central American neighbors. In 1970, the government established the official institution Instituto Hondureño del Cafe (IHCAFE), dedicated to improving coffee quality. Within the six designated production regions defined by this institution, coffee laboratories were set up to assist coffee producers.

After 2001, coffee production experienced significant growth, reaching nearly 6 million bags by 2011, surpassing the combined production of Costa Rica and Guatemala. Approximately 110,000 families in Honduras are engaged in coffee production. Honduras's unique geographical environment allows for suitable coffee-growing areas throughout almost the entire country. The six major production regions are: Copán, Opalaca, Montecillos, Comayagua, Agalta, and El Paraíso."
