Arabica Coffee Variety 74158 - In the 20th century, Ethiopia, with official support, embarked on a series of projects to search for, test, and name coffee varieties. To address the impact of a certain disease on coffee trees, the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in Ethiopia collected 639 coffee tree varieties. After research, they released 13 varieties, including 74110, 74112, and 74158.
74158 originates from the Jimma Agricultural Research Center in the Metu-Bishari forest of the Illuababora zone in western Ethiopia, possessing excellent productivity and disease-resistant genes. In terms of quality and flavor, its superiority is undeniable. This variety exhibits distinct citrus and floral notes, accompanied by apricot, strawberry, blueberry, and a wonderful floral and milk chocolate aftertaste.
The 2020 Ethiopia Cup of Excellence (COE) auction champion (Sidamo region/natural process), scoring 91.4 points, used the 74158 variety. Due to Ethiopia's rich and diverse coffee varieties, many unidentified coffee varieties are currently collectively referred to as Ethiopian Heirloom. Therefore, being able to taste pure 74158 coffee is even more precious."
