Arabica Coffee Variety: 74110
Arabica coffee originates from Ethiopia in Africa. To this day, hundreds, even thousands, of wild coffee varieties exist within Ethiopia. Many grow naturally in the ancient forests. Countless local evolutions, mutations, and cross-pollinations have created a vast original variety pool. This local mixed variety is known as the Arabica genetic pool. The indigenous varieties produced within Ethiopia are referred to as Heirloom.
In the 20th century, Ethiopia, with official support, embarked on a series of projects to search for, test, and name coffee varieties. The 74110 variety made a stunning debut at the inaugural Ethiopia Cup of Excellence (COE) competition, securing second, third, and eighth place in the washed process category. Notably, both the second and third place batches received scores exceeding 90 points from the international judges, achieving remarkable results.
The Cup of Excellence (COE) was held in Ethiopia for the first time in 2020, with all top three positions going to coffees from the Sidamo region. In terms of varieties, 74158 won first place. 74110 demonstrated its exceptional coffee flavor and characteristics by securing second, third, eighth, seventeenth, twentieth, and twenty-seventh places. Regarding auction prices, the first-place 74158 variety set a new record with a price of US$185 per pound of green coffee. The second and third place 74110 varieties were sold at auction prices of $108 and $49 per pound of green coffee, respectively.
